Join us at the NYS ARTS Summit in Schenectady, September 22–23, 2009!
The Arts & Business Council of New York is collaborating with NYS ARTS and will present four breakout sessions at this year's summit:
Volunteers: Recruiting and Engaging Presenter: Elaine Grogan Luttrull, ABC/NY 2009 Encore Award honoree: Creative Business Volunteer
Good volunteers are not just affordable but invaluable. More volunteers are looking for meaningful opportunities to connect with the arts—it’s not about envelope stuffing; they want to use their brains, not just their hands. An inside look at how to manage a skills-based volunteer program and what it's like to be a skills-based volunteer.
Small Business Sponsorships
Presenters: Will Maitland Weiss, Executive Director, Arts & Business Council of New York and Nancy Rutter, Vice President, Key Bank
Your next sponsor will not be a billion dollar corporation. Some of the most creative and successful sponsorships are with smaller, local companies. Earn and/or save thousands: tips on how to develop a project, make the approach, manage the relationship, evaluate, and repeat. Connect and collaborate with the businesses in your community for mutual success!
Marketing 101 Presenter: TBD
Craft an effective and efficient marketing plan. From the step-by-step planning process to the use of market research to crafting a powerful brand identity. No matter how low your budget, here are tools to connect artists with their audiences.
Successful Cultural Tourism: Here’s How!
Presenters: Anne Conroy-Baiter, Executive Director, Cattaraugus County Arts Council and Christine Hoffer, Towns & Villages of the Battenkill Valley
Learn how to use your community’s unique assets to create a cultural tourism program that will bring visitors to your community, encourage them to spend, and keep them coming back for more. Includes case studies of successful arts/business partnerships, use of existing events to create new marketing opportunities, and e-mail marketing.

ABC/NY also offers a series of arts-specific marketing workshops through the National Arts Marketing Project. These workshops are designed to help arts organizations develop new audiences and earned income and feature topics including branding, sponsorship, viral marketing, market research, audience development and retention, and more. These are complemented with a comprehensive marketing website created by our national staff and an annual national conference.
Contact us to be added to our e-mail list for updates
on cultural tourism workshops and webinars.
ABC/NY's cultural tourism programming is made possible through the generous support of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency; and the National Endowment for the Arts.
