Student Information

Applications for the 2010 program will be accepted through February 19, 2010. Please read the guidelines carefully before completing the application form.

The program is open to current college students who will have completed at least one year of undergraduate education by the summer the internship begins. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply; applications from college graduates and graduate students will not be accepted.

Overview
Each intern spends 10 weeks at a New York City arts organization, working full time Monday through Friday. In addition, interns attend site visits to all participating arts organizations; an opening orientation breakfast meeting; weekly social gatherings and/or workshops; and a closing ceremony and reception. Interns may complete projects in marketing and communications, development (fundraising), event planning, audience development, community outreach, and more. Participating students come from around the country, and they bring with them a variety of personal and academic backgrounds. Intern host arts organizations represent a range of disciplines, including music, dance, theater, visual arts, museums, and arts services. And last but not least, corporate mentors hold numerous professional occupations but share a common passion for the arts and desire to guide a young person in his/her pursuits.

Interns will have the unique opportunity to:

  • become a part of New York City's vibrant arts community;
  • gain hands-on experience in arts management by working on projects that are designed to increase applicable skills, contacts, and future job prospects;
  • benefit from the experience and skills of seasoned arts administrators and receive one-on-one guidance from a personal business mentor; and
  • make friends and have fun experiencing the arts and culture of New York City with fellow interns!

Stipend
Each intern receives a $2,500 stipend.

Housing/Transportation
Housing in New York City is not provided, but ABC/NY can assist interns with locating temporary summer housing options. Transportation to/from New York City is not provided, but each intern receives MTA MetroCards for unlimited travel on subways and buses within the city throughout the 10-week internship.

Preference
As this program seeks to promote diversity in the field of arts management, preference will be given to African-American, Asian-American, Latina/o, and Native-American students.
